Hugh Jackman shared an Instagram post just hours after his ex-wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, formally filed for divorce, officially ending their 27-year marriage.
The Greatest Showman star uploaded a video on Wednesday featuring a skipping routine from his Live From New York With Love performance at Radio City Music Hall.
However, it wasn’t the impressive workout that drew attention, it was the soundtrack: NSYNC’s breakup anthem Bye Bye Bye.
The post, captioned simply “Finally,” appeared to strike a nerve with followers, many of whom interpreted the song choice as a subtle nod to the end of his decades-long relationship.
While the track is featured in Jackman’s upcoming film Deadpool & Wolverine, its timing, coinciding with the divorce filing, made it difficult to ignore the possible double meaning.
According to Daily Mail, the video came on the heels of a deeply personal statement from Furness in which she addressed the pain of betrayal and the collapse of a nearly three-decade marriage.
In regards to this, she told the outlet, “My heart and compassion goes out to everyone who has traversed the traumatic journey of betrayal. It’s a profound wound that cuts deep… yet I believe in a higher power and that the universe is always working for us.”
Moreover, Jackman and Furness announced their separation in September 2023, but had not filed for divorce until now.
Sources say the lack of a prenuptial agreement and the complexity of dividing their estimated $250 million fortune contributed to the delay.
Insiders also suggested that Furness suspects an emotional affair between Jackman and The Music Man co-star Sutton Foster, although there has been no confirmation of infidelity.
Additionally, a source revealed, “While he didn’t physically cheat on her, Deborra-Lee believes there was emotional betrayal.”
