Olivia Colman reflects on working with Benedict Cumberbatch ahead of ‘The Roses’

Olivia Colman is reflecting on one of her onscreen roles that didn’t, unfortunately, make it to the final cut.

The Crown actress, who is currently promoting her latest comedy The Roses alongside Benedict Cumberbatch, recently appeared on the Dish podcast on Wednesday, September 10.

The duo explained that they had worked together prior to their upcoming starrer, pointing out scenes that were cut from the 2021 film The Electrical Life of Louis Wain.

The Sherlock star began, “We did a tiny bit in…”

Colman couldn’t help but laugh as she added, “Louis Wain, but I got cut.

“It’s the best thing to be cut because then you get paid and no one can say you were s**t in it. It’s great.”

Cumberbatch quickly added, “She was brilliant too.”

For the unversed, Cumberbatch portrayed the groundbreaking role of painter Louis Wain, who was famous for his drawings of cats.

While Colman remained in the film as a narrator, her onscreen role was ultimately cut from the final edit.

On the professional front, The Roses is currently running in cinemas after its release on August 29, 2025.
